Understanding the Links Between Violence and Illness"

Dr. Vincent Felitti (Kaiser Permanente Health Center, San Diego) is a nationally-known primary-care doctor and a lead author of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study. This study of more than 17,000 patients found that traumatic experiences in childhood (such as physical, emotional, and sexual violence, or parental addiction) is linked to increased rates of serious illness in adulthood. Illnesses including heart disease, autoimmune disorders, cancer, chronic headaches, suicide, obesity, and addictions are strongly correlated with childhood violence and trauma.
Dr. Felitti will discuss these issues and provide some possible strategies and solutions to members of the Walla Walla community.

Free workshops and interactive lectures by community experts will feature solution-oriented presentations on topics which include:
- Combating teen drug use.
- School and internet bullying.
- Holistic approaches to youth health
(including nutrition, exercise, and meditation).
- Gang violence.
- Building resilience in children,
and more.

(lunch available for registered participants),
and 5:15-7:45 p.m. at St. Patrick Church

and childcare provided).
